Leisure in Ubud, Bali

     Ubud is a town on the Indonesian island of Bali. It is in Ubud district. Located amongs rice paddies and step ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar Regency.

It is regarded as a cultural centre of Bali, famous  as an crafts hub. Ubud is now a hotspot for literate, glitterati, art collectors and connoiseurs. Now, five star hotels and sprawling mansions stand on its outskirt, overlooking the most prized views in Bali.

Much of the town and nearby villages seems to consist of artists' workshops and galleries. There are some remarkable architectural and other sights to be found, and general feeling of well being to be enjoyed, all thanks to the spirit, sorounding and climate of the place.

Ubud has grown rapidly, and some central parts are creaking under the strain of coping with the number of visitors.

Although Ubud has growth rapidly and continously, but the surrounding area are still terraced rice fields along the river and away from the town centre, regular, quiet village life caary on relatively undisturbed.

Central Ubud has three main streets. If you choose a reasonably central place to stay, it is easy enough to get arounf on foot.

Ubud has a population about 30.000 people. Recently, it has become difficult to distinguish the town itself from the villages that sorround it. The area sorrounding the town is made up of small farms, rice paddies and dense forrest.

The town was originally important as a source of medicinal herbs and plants, and Ubud gets its name from the Balinese word " ubad" (medicine).

Ubud tourism focuses on culture, yoga and nature. In contrast to the main tourist area in southern Bali, The Ubud area has forest , rivers, cooler temperatures less congestion.
